Recommendations
Don’t miss: Cave tours (unfortunately, we did and will have to return). There’s a lot of wildlife above ground, so don’t skip a drive through the park too.
When to visit: When the elevator to the cave is actually working. Summer might get hot above ground, but the cave is cool all the time.
How long to stay: You could do this park in a day, including a cave tour and exploring above ground. Two days might be better if you want to allow a leisurely day below and above ground.

Above ground experiences with bison, badgers, coyotes, and more prarie dogs. A cool hike to a fire tower and Eddie’s bumpy ride on the way to the Badlands. We never made it below ground, so this park is…to be continued…

You would think that visiting Wind Cave National Park would entail actually entering a cave, but unfortunately the elevator there has been out of commission for over a year. We knew this beforehand, but decided to drive through the park anyway as the above ground...
