Recommendations

Don’t miss:  If you’ve made the investment in driving to Big Bend, try do to the Boquillas border crossing (did I say authentic tacos?), go hiking in the Chisos Basin, and go over to Santa Elena Canyon

When to visit:  Fall/Winter is best.  It’s crazy hot in the summer.  We did November and it was perfect.

How long to stay:  Don’t short change this park.  I think 3 days is the bare minimum.

Definitely check out the Photo Gallery of our best pictures.

Most people imagine Big Bend as a dusty, unappealing part of southwestern Texas, full of cactus and rattlesnakes.  While there is dust and cactii and probably rattlesnakes, it’s surprisingly beautiful.  Just check out some of the shots we got and see for yourself.

Trip Report

Read about our adventure to Big Bend…

It’s a long haul to get to Big Bend.  But we both agreed that it’s one of our most underrated parks.  A fun border crossing, magnificent vistas, cool mountains, and the amazing Rio Grande carving a spectacular canyon made it a great park for us.
