Where is Black Canyon of the Gunnison? Western Colorado, 250 miles southwest of Denver.
Recommendations
Don’t miss: Drive the South Rim Road and hike out to all the vistas. There are subtle differences between them all, but the steepness and narrowness of the canyon is stunning. If your vehicle can handle it, drive down the 16% East Portal grade to the river.
When to visit: Any time the weather allows. Not a crowded park.
How long to stay: You could do the park in one day, but camping in the park and taking two days to do both rim and river levels would be better.
