Established (as NP) February 1919
1.2M acres (just over 1/2 the size of Yellowstone)
Where is the (north rim) Grand Canyon: Northern Arizona, about a 200 miles drive northwest of Flagstaff.
Recommendations (North Rim)
Don’t miss: Stay at the North Rim at either the campground or the beautiful Grand Canyon Lodge. Hike anywhere along the rim (or down into the canyon ). A drive along Cape Royal Road to the numerous vistas makes for a great day.
When to visit: Spring and fall are best, but even summer is cooler on the North Rim than the South, and way less crowded.
How long to stay: At least 3 days to allow relaxed hikes and capturing sunrise/sunset from various spots.
Definitely check out the Photo Gallery of our best pictures.
