RV Life
(with Cousin Eddie)
Prior to 2017, if you had asked us the likelihood of owning an RV or a Mercedes, the answer would have been very near 0%. But people change. After our 2016 Yellowstone family trip and Rainy’s 59×59 idea, a few things became clear. First, we’d have to retire unless we wanted to do week or weekend trips until we were 70 to hit all the parks. Second, if we really wanted to take our time to enjoy nature and photograph the parks, we’d need a better solution than staying in hotels away from the parks and parading in each day with hordes of people. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, just less enjoyable. So, we set off to learn about the amazing universe of recreational vehicles. To that point, our limited understanding revolved around the large Class A diesel pushers that we had seen on the road and in movies (think Christmas Vacation or We’re The Millers). We knew we wanted something more nimble, so we initially focused on something like the Amazon size vans we had seen around our neighborhood (Class B). If we weren’t put off by the fact that one of us would kill the other after more than a week in something that small, the description of the cartridge toilet in one of the models was the clincher. With a cartridge toilet, you have to remove a suitcase sized container of human waste and physically take it to a place to dump and clean yourself. Most RVs require you to empty your waste tanks through a flexible plastic tube, but the idea of a cartridge toilet is another level of NO THANK YOU. Ok, it’s starting to sound like Goldilocks, but enter the world of Class C (or B+ in our case) motorhomes. It’s a marriage of more nimble driving with just (barely) enough space for two (and maybe an eventual dog). Now a big part of our adventure is how we make travelling in a 25′ RV work. Read up on Eddie, Ruby Sue, and other blog posts for more specifics on our RV Life. If you’ve camped before and haven’t been turned off by a little dirt and hard work, then maybe an RV is in your future too.
Thanks and happy travels.
Meet Eddie (tbd)
Cousin Eddie, our 25 foot RV is our little (literally 80sf) hotel on wheels. Learn about our rig, how we decided to get it, why we named it Eddie, and how much we love it.
Meet Ruby Sue (tbd)
In the movie, she’s Eddie’s daughter, but for us, she’s our time saving ticket to worry free parking and tooling around the National Parks.
