Recommendations
Don’t miss: Take a flighttour or fly into the park from Chitina. Tour the Kennecott Mine and hike out on Root Glacier. Stay for a couple days in McCarthy to take in the majesty.
When to visit: Any time it’s open which is usually mid-May to mid-September.
How long to stay: If you’re making the effort to get here, stay for a while. Three days or more should work.

We barely scratched the surface on this huge park. Rafting in glacial rivers, exploring an old copper mine, hiking on top of the Root Glacier, jaw dropping bush plane flights, and some of the coolest locals we’ve encountered.
